Blow Nessie Out of the Water

Work has been crazy busy lately! I know that's hard to believe, but believe it.

Tonight I'm going out with my Thursday night friends (I know, I know it's Wednesday) to Blues on the Green.
Unfortunately the Los Lonely Boys are playing.
Ick.
So really, I'm going for the outdoors experience. And maybe a couple of beverages. With alcohol in them.

That reminds me of last year when I went to the ACL fest. It's actually at the same place, obviously on a smaller scale.
It was so, incredibly, miserably, oppressively HOT outside. I kept getting completely grossed out by the fact that people were paying $5.00 for a plastic water bottle filled with WINE.
Who would ever enjoy drinking wine in the hot, HOT sun?
Ick.

Back to tonight: on the bright side I'll get to take a chilly dip in Barton Springs Pool after the concert, which I'm sort of looking forward to with a little bit of terror. All I know is it will be dark, meaning the water will be dark, so if there are any freshwater sharks swimming around or poisonous salamanders waiting to bite my toes off, I won't be prepared at all.

When I was a young girl of 14 or 15 I used to spend the summers at Emma Long Park (this was before it was completely ghetto and overrun with human whales). I would run to the end of one of the docks and throw myself into the refreshing water.
One time I was swimming along, minding my own business, when suddenly something sharp clamped down on my big toe and then jerked away. I was terrified and scrambled up the ladder hanging off the dock.
When I was safe on the dock I looked down and noticed my toe was gushing with blood, and when I washed the blood away you could see deep, gaping TEETH MARKS on my toe.
I think I may have needed stitches, but I was a tough girl.
To this day I have nary a clue to what bit me on the foot.
But I have it narrowed down to the only possibilities:
A turtle
A barracuda
A piranha
A hungry merman
Nessie
The little boy who drowned in the lake 50 years ago

And now, because of that unnerving experience, I'm forever afraid of murky or deep water.
