SYTYCD and The Wedding Dress

There's one thing I love about summer time that may make you laugh...

By the way, it's the first day of summer! And supposedly it's the happiest day of the year?

One way I know summer is here is SYTYCD. For the past 3 (I think?) years, FOX has taken a spin off of their American Idol show and created So You Think You Can Dance. And I love it.
The show takes itself a little more seriously in that they don't spend episode after episode after episode after episode showing you all of the ridiculous people that audition. They'll show you a few...for example, this year there was a guy who wore something that looked like a Power Ranger mask to cover his face. And during his audition, as soon as the music started, he basically ran around the stage stomping his feet. He said he was trying to "revolutionize" dance. And I laughed at him.
Anyway, they make quick business of narrowing it down to the top 20 (10 guys, 10 girls), and then they pair the dancers up. The following weeks are couples competitions and the couples randomly draw a dance style out of a hat, and that's their dance for the week. Typically their top twenty are outstanding dancers, but this year they showed a single lapse in judgement.

Susie.

Susie was supposedly a high school teacher from Miami who liked to Salsa dance on the side. She had bleached-blond hair with bright pink highlights in it, she'd very obviously had some "work" done, and she was dressed like a ho. When she started dancing, she looked ridiculous. There was a lot of hip-gyrating, booty jiggling, and something that only slightly resembled Salsa.
Yet, they all said she had "spunk" and "fire" and "personality." Despite the fact that she was icky and dirty and slutty and couldn't dance, they let her through.

She survived one couples competition. And last night, after drawing a SALSA from the hat (supposedly her forte), she was eliminated.
And there was much rejoicing.

Now I can sit back, relax, and watch the real dancers go to work. Hurray.

This weekend my M-I-L and I are taking a very necessary trip to Dallas to...shop. We are looking for dresses to wear to Josh and Janean's wedding, and Austin has proved itself to be a huge let down.
We're headed for NorthPark Center, one of the biggest malls in the nation. PLUS it has the Flagship Dillards and Flagship Macy's, so I'm hoping we'll have some luck.
And, just for kicks and convenience, we're staying one night in a hotel down the road from the mall.

It's 1:20 and I'm done with my work for the day. I'm thinking of tackling C.S. Lewis's The Problem of Pain as I sit here. From what I can gather, he's addressing pain in life from a Christian perspective...one that believes God is good, man is sinful, etc.

Should be enlightening.

  1. There are few shows I enjoy more than SYTYCD, totally addicted since season 2, have every episode downloaded from 2, 3, and 4 as they air. Twitch and Kherington will both be in the top 6 at least, my money is on one of the two of them winning. I insist we try to get fans of the show to watch together.
btw, Lacey is the best dancer. ever.
