Great Balls of Fire!

Oh my, loyal readers!
You must forgive me. Oh! How long it's been since I was last here, writing. I wonder...will things ever, ever be the same?

Holy cow, I've been a busy lady lately. I'll tell you...part of the problem was that last week I took my laptop to a coffee shop with me and left it in my trunk afterwards. Every evening it was the same: I'd think to myself, D'oh! I left my computer in my car again! But of course I'm far too lazy to walk outside and get it. So there it sat. And so sat my blog. Sterile. Untouched. Unloved.

I shall try to do better.

I have plenty of work to do, so I shall leave you with this story.

A few evenings ago my mother-in-law and I paid a visit to my old high school. One of my old high school classmates--who is now my sister-in-law--is working there as a coach and a teacher these days. She coaches the high school girls' volleyball team and they had a game that evening. To show our love and support for dear, dear sister-in-law-Janean, we made an appearance.
When we walked in they girls had already begun to play, so in between serves we slipped past the court and sat in the bleachers on the stage with Janean's family.
I, of course, got the seat right on the crack between the two sets of bleachers. But no matter, I was there for Janean. A few minutes after we sat down, along came a mother and daughter, apparently supporters of the other team. There was a stretch of several seats along the bleachers next to me, but for some reason the little girl decided she needed to sit right. next. to me. We're not talking a seat over. We're talking...she was practically cuddling me.
Whatever! I thought, that's just fine. That's just fine.
And it was, for a couple of minutes.
But then, just after I finished cheering for an awesome bump-set-spike, I noticed the little girlwas staring at me with a goofy grin on her face. I turned and looked at her, raising my eyebrows as if to say, Yes???
And, pointing to one of the high school players on the court, she says, Is that your daughter???
My eyes widened to the size of tennis balls and I managed to croak, NO!
I then, guiltless, turned my back on the little girl and refused to look at her for the remainder of the game.
I almost started crying hysterically, but then I overheard Janean's mom tell Jana that we were playing a homeshooling league.

So I felt better.

Homeschoolers are weird. (take that Kristian and Ethan!)

  1. Little kids don't know what they're talking about when they guess how old you might be... or if you have children that are in high school.

One time a girl guessed I was 42!
