Christmas and the Winds of Change

Well hello my readers (if there are anymore of you out there...)!
I've missed you and this blog.
It's Christmas Eve and I'm sitting in my office at work enjoying the most boring day Customer Service has ever seen!
Daniel called earlier and said, "You have nothing to do today, do you?"
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
"You picked up my phone call. And on the first ring!"

I worked hard this morning to get caught up on all the things that have been falling aside because of more important tasks. But today I've been able to accomplish a lot without interruption!

Last week it was really starting to "feel" like Christmas, with days in the 20s and 30s, but today the temperature has crept its way back into the 60s. It's pleasant weather...but I kind of prefer it to be cold! But who am I kidding? I live in Texas!

I spent most of last night baking my (now) traditional holiday treat: homemade biscotti. I completely botched one batch of them, which delighted my friends who sat and munched on botched chocolate biscotti with white chocolate chips for the remainder of the evening.
Tomorrow morning Daniel and I are headed to Rockport for some time with the in-country family. I'm really looking forward to it!
I got an amazing recipe for White Chicken Chili a few weeks ago and we've been on a kick of it ever since. Maybe I'll get to make some for the family this weekend. One of these days I'll share the amazing recipe with you. It will change your life!

Life has been busy but fun. Last weekend my old highschool hosted an Alumni Basketball Game and I spent a good part of the weekend seeing old friends and catching up with them. A good time was had by all and there are several pictures up on facebook of the event.
Daniel and I have started looking for places to live as we quickly approach the 6 month mark of living with the in-laws. I'm really excited about some of our prospects--and trying not to get too excited at the same time!! What I'm most excited about is living in an area that is close to our work, friends, and church. It will be such a relief not to be stuck in the car for 2 hours every day. That can drive a person crazy!

Daniel and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary last week...actually we didn't do much celebrating because the night before our date-night Daniel had to rush me to the ER! I was stricken--yes stricken--with a pretty severe infection. It was a little scary...I had a fever, was shaking violently, and was in incredible pain. We called my insurance's Nurse Hotline and the nurse on duty advised us to get to the ER as soon as possible.
I was upstairs getting ready to go when I hear Daniel's phone beep the way it does when he's making an emergency call.
"Are you calling 911?" I asked.
"Yeah.." he answered.
"WHY? We don't need an ambulance! Just drive me to the hospital!" I said as I struggled down the stairs.
"But I need directions!"
"Well Daniel," I said, "Call 411 or look it up on the internet!"
It was too late though, someone picked up the line and he got directions to the ER from a 911 operator--and I think they asked him "Do you need an ambulance?" several times throughout the conversation.
He was just worried about me :)
In the car on the way to the hospital I started crying, having convinced myself I was dying. But Daniel told me he thought I would live to see the next day.
When I got to the ER I was still crying and I was shaking so hard I could hardly walk. The receptionist took one look at me just handed me a clipboard and a pen and asked me to fill out a bunch of forms. That kind of turned my thinking in a less dramatic way...obviously it wasn't serious enough to be whisked away on a gurney.
We sat in a hospital room for about 2 hours watching a documentary about Abraham Lincoln and then were sent home with strong painkillers and antibiotics. No big deal.
I skipped work the next day and cried as I watched A Baby Story on TLC.
I told that to Amber, my supervisor and she asked, "are you sure you're not pregnant?"

Yes. I'm sure. And I was on drugs.

While I was at home crying about home-births, Daniel ran some documents to my office for me. When he got to the office everyone was in the lobby enjoying a catered Christmas party. Daniel grabbed a plate of Rudy's barbeque, picked up his very own coffee-maker and Wal-Mart giftcard, and sat down at the end of one of the tables. The customer service girls I work with joined him after realizing that he wasn't some random moocher off the street. But I could hardly believe it when he told me he'd stayed for the Christmas luncheon...he's so funny.

  1. I'm so glad you got your infection under control. I was plagued with those for years. But, now it has been years since I've had one. Hope your Christmas was awesome and your biscotti sounds sublime. Miss you.
